PhD positions

We are always keen to hear from prospective PhD students interested in joining the lab. However, PhD positions are dependent upon funding being available. PhD funding is typically provided by doctoral training programmes at King’s, such as the MRC DTP . In general, places for international students (those not eligible for home fees) are somewhat limited, so please check the relevant websites for details.

For clinicians looking to undertake a PhD, we are happy to dicuss applications through the King’s Mental Health PhD programme . Applications are currently open for this programme, with the deadline being Monday 17th November 2025.

We can also support projects through the LIDo programme. Interested applicants should apply through the LIDo website, projects are then arranged once you are accepted to the programme. Please get in touch with Toby for more information. Applications for LIDo 2026 entry are currently open, with a deadline of 10th December 2025.

We are also are happy to discuss potential projects within the remit of the LISS DTP Open Competition. For this scheme, students apply to the DTP with a project proposal, so please get in touch with Toby to discuss this. Applications for LISS DTP 2026 entry are currently open, with a deadline of 23rd January 2026.

We are open to supporting PhD applications via the King’s-China Scholarship Council programme for students who meet the eligibility criteria.

If you have access to other sources of PhD funding and are keen to join the lab, please reach out to Toby to discuss further.

Postdoctoral fellowships

We are happy to discuss potential fellowship applications. There are a few schemes available for postdoctoral fellowships, including:

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions

These fellowships support applicants from outside Europe to work in Europe (including the UK), or applicants within Europe to work in a different European country.

Newton International Fellowships

These fellowships support international applicants to work in the UK.

Wellcome Early Career Awards

These fellowships are open to UK or international applicants aiming to join a UK-based lab.

Postdoctoral positions

We currently don’t have any open postdoctoral positions in the lab.

Research assistant positions

We do not currently have any open research assistant positions. As a rule we do not take on volunteer research assistants as it can promote inequality of opportunity.

We are generally happy to host visits/internships as part of taught/research degree programmes etc. Please contact Toby to discuss further.

MSc and BSc projects

We are always keen to hear from KCL students interested in completing their MSc or BSc projects in the lab. Please reach out to Toby .
