PhD positions
PhD positions are dependent upon funding being available and this funding always comes from external sources - while we are happy to hear from prospective students, we will only be able to discuss PhD projects via the relevant funding schemes listed here.
PhD funding is typically provided by doctoral training programmes at King’s. These normally open for applications in the autumn, and we are able to take students via the following schemes:
- The MRC DLA. Projects will be advertised in December 2026 - if you are interested, please get in touch with Toby after this.
- The LISS DTP. This DTP requires students to develop a project in collaboration with a supervisor. If you are interested in this scheme, please get in touch with Toby, but bear in mind that this programme has a social science focus.
- The K-CSC programme. This scheme is for students from China, and requires students to develop a project in collaboration with a supervisor. If you are interested in this scheme, please get in touch with Toby.
- The LIDo programme. Students apply to the programme rather than specific labs, but we are happy to discuss potential projects with applicants accepted on to the programme. Please get in touch with Toby.
Note that places for international students (those not eligible for home fees) are normally somewhat limited across all schemes, so please check the relevant websites for details.

Postdoctoral fellowships
We are happy to discuss potential fellowship applications. There are a few schemes available for postdoctoral fellowships, including:
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions
These fellowships support applicants from outside Europe to work in Europe (including the UK), or applicants within Europe to work in a different European country.
Newton International Fellowships
These fellowships support international applicants to work in the UK.
Wellcome Early Career Awards
These fellowships are open to UK or international applicants aiming to join a UK-based lab.
Postdoctoral positions
We currently don’t have any open postdoctoral positions in the lab.
Research assistant positions
We do not currently have any open research assistant positions. As a rule we do not take on volunteer research assistants as it can promote inequality of opportunity.
Internships/visits
We are generally happy to host visits/internships as part of taught/research degree programmes etc. Please contact Toby to discuss further.
MSc and BSc projects
We are always keen to hear from KCL students interested in completing their MSc or BSc projects in the lab. Please reach out to Toby.
